For Those Considering to Read:
“All the Stars and Teeth” is a young adult fantasy book written by Adalyn Grace. This 368-page book goes over the adventures of one Amora Montara, and the ancient soul binding curse on her bloodline.
Amora Montara is a princess, destined to soon rule over her home kingdom Visidia. While I usually worry about the character authenticity of young women in royalty throughout the YA fantasy genre (meaning having characters with depth, not just shallow tropes), I was not too disappointed in Amora’s character. She is cold, calculated, and ready to serve her people. She has been training her whole life to rule, and nothing, not even her own magic, will stop her.
Visidia is a world of magic, divided into seven. Seven islands, seven factions of magic, each secluded to their perspective piece of land. The Montara’s rule from the center isle, Arida. And it is time for Amora to prove to her people that she can tame the beast in her blood, her starving magic howling for death, and show that she is fit to rule. Fit to serve.
Yet eighteen years of training could have never been enough as Amora starts to wander past her father’s ever watchful eye and secrets start to make themselves known, and questions plague her mind.
She fails.
Amora is forced to flee, striking a deal with an alluring pirate, promising her aid to recover her people’s trust. Amora is free to sail the seas of her kingdom that her father never let her explore, but with her love and wonder for the open ocean comes peril. From legendary sea beasts, to a corrupted new magic on the rise. A rebellion is on Visidia’s doorstep.
If Amora ever wants to win back the trust of her people, she must face her father’s secrets, cross paths with vengeful mermaids that crave the blood of men, stop the rise of this new and dangerous magic, and do it all before fall.
The fate of Visidia in on Amora’s bloodied hands, and she risks losing the crown forever.
